This swivel set has a misprint in the instructions. Item #4 it says to drill a 7/32 hole in a wooden stock. That is larger than the screw. Drill a 5/32 hole and you will not have a problem.

Purchased this for a synthetic stock 10/22
Front swivel is an easy install.
    1. Remove barrel band screw inset tab in barrel band opening, re-install barrel band screw

The rear stud requires a little planning and work to properly install.
You will need the following items for a good install.
    1. ruler or tape measure
    2. center punch or nail to mark the stud location.
    3. 1/16th inch drill bit
    4. 5/32nd inch BRAD POINT drill bit
    5. 7/32nd inch BRAD POINT drill bit
    6. epoxy glue
    7, petroleum jelly
    8, cotton swab
    9. clean rag
    INSTALL:
    1. measure approximately 2 inches up from butt plate on bottom of stock This is not a critical measurement.
2, use center punch or nail to mark stud location directly on stock seam. This will center the required hole.
    3. Hold the stud to the side of the stock and angle it until the shoulder of the stud appears flat on the stock.
    4. mark the angle with a pencil. This is shown in the directions.
    3. use 1/16th inch bit to drill pilot hole completely into stock cavity along the path of your marked angle.
    4. center the 7/32nd inch BRAD point drill in pilot hole. Drill a 1/8th inch deep hole into stock along the path of your
marked angle. DO NOT DRILL DEEPER THAN 1/8th INCH
5, center the 5/32nd inch BRAD point bit in pilot hole. Drill into stock cavity along the path of your marked angle
    6. carefully thread the LONGER stud into this hole. Take the necessary time to insure that the stud enters the stock
at the correct angle. Use a nail thru stud hole for added leverage. Make sure that the hole in stud is 90 degrees to
the seam in stock so that swivel will be correctly oriented.
    7. With stud in place coat the stock around the stud with petroleum jelly in a 1 inch radius. This is your release agent
for any epoxy that oozes out during final installation.
    8. Remove the stud and carefully remove any petroleum jelly that may have made its way into stud hole.
    9. Wipe the stud clean and install the sling swivel onto stud.
    10. Carefully coat the threads of the stud with a quality epoxy and re install the stud into stock. Because you have
established a thread base this should be easy to do. Screw into stock until the stud seats and the swivel is
correctly oriented to the stock. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. The epoxy will fill any gaps and lock the stud into place.
11, Wipe away the petroleum jelly and any epoxy that may have oozed out from the final install.
    12. Wait the recommended time for the epoxy to set and install sling

This is not as complicated as it sounds. I feel that the most important part of the install is establishing the angle for the stud to seat into the stock correctly. By drilling a pilot hole the brad point bits will automatically center and produce a flat bottomed hole for the stud to seat. The petroleum jelly makes removal of any stray epoxy easy. Just don’t over drill the 7/32nd inch hole. I am fortunate to have a drill press which makes the install fairly straight forward. But i feel that using a hand held drill and carefully drilling the holes is also a viable option. I would recommend using a vise or clamps to hold the stock steady while the hole are drilled.

    Perfect for a Ruger 10/22, January 9, 2011

I bought this for a new Ruger 10/22(stainless steel barrel with composite stock). The kit came with complete instructions and was super easy to install. I used the barrel band connector for the front and had no issues installing that part. On the rear, the guide had tips specifically for drilling composite stocks. I split the spacer ring while putting the stud in but other than that no issues. I haven’t had a chance to really field test them yet, but the swivels seem very solid.
