Arrived in good condition. My version is the 22 caliber version First thing to do when getting the air rifle is clean the barrel. Spend about 30 minutes on just cleaning the barrel. Next, go out and get a decent scope for the air gun. The scope provided is junk but the rings provided are solid so keep the rings. Now after mounting the new scope you will want to use a bench rest (despite what the manual says) just use the bench rest to rest YOUR HANDS which will hold the rifle and setup a target at 25-30 yards out.

Take your Rifle OUT of the stock and tighten up the screws which hold the barrel to the main part of the gun as that part is where it hold alignment of the barrel with the locking mechanism when the rifle is cocked… You should do this as mine was a bit LOOSE when I got it.

You ARE going to need to ‘Season’ the barrel and the way to do that is to well – Shoot the air gun about 100-200 times at least so have plenty of pellets handy. Then Clean the barrel again very well. I am a well trained expert shooter (military trained) and I can shoot 4 out of 5 pellets into a Dime at 30 yards out with this 22 cal pellet air gun now that the barrel and moving parts are seasoned with some 200 rounds going through it.

I like the Crossman premium dome shaped 14.3 gr pellets as they seem to be very accurate. My cron says they exit at about 800 fps. These pellets also go through 1/4 inch plywood so they are powerful enough to take tree rats rabbits and maybe even pests like possums armadillos.

I can do the same with my Benjamin Marauder in 25 cal version.

Overall the trigger is stiff but is something which can be learned where the falloff is. The gun is heavy with the wood stock on the 22 version, but the weight keeps the barrel from jumping up too much when the shot is fired. The gun is loud but gets quieter after using it a bit. After seasoning it is not so loud that neighbors call the cops about gun shots in the area.

This is NOT the air rifle to start your kid learning how to shoot with as it is heavy, takes effort to cock it, and the trigger pull is an effort.

The Nitro Venom is one of the finest air rifles I have shot. It is very accurate is quiet and feels good in the hands. I bought the 22 Caliber and although a little slower than its 17 caliber brother it makes up for it in power. I bought the wood stock model which has a good finish on it. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a nice well-built and powerful air rifle.

I thought my .177 Gamo Hornet was nice…. boy was I missing out!
EDIT: This is my 2nd Nitro Venom(sold the first for quick cash and regretted it), and I’m still happy!

    – Always clean your gun before the first use use and before/after long-term storage- simply run a patch or boresnake through the barrel to prevent firing against any buildup and residue that may be inside. I personally field strip the rifle, wipe everything down with a silicone gun cloth (I use Kleen Bore, works great!) and lube the action just to make sure everything is clean and ready to use.
    – Just as the manufacturer claims, it’s much quieter than a spring piston. I don’t have to worry about bothering the neighbors with this one.
    – Deadly accurate out of the box; even more accurate after the 100-shot break in period!
    – The scope has exceptional quality; it of course can be replaced with a more expensive scope, but it gets the job done.
    – Beautiful wooden stock and overall design.
    – The trigger on my first Nitro Venom was fantastic, however the trigger on my newer one has much more pull; I’m considering replacing it and you may have the same dilemma.
    – I am a female that weighs under 100lbs and it is not overly heavy but has a decent weight. If I can cock it, anyone can.
    – Birds, Rabbits, Squirrels, Small Hogs.. none of them stand a chance.
    – I use Crosman Premier Hollow Points for the tightest groupings.

DO NOT settle on a .177 plastic rifle- get the .22 Crosman Nitro Venom.
