Extremely surprised, outstanding recoil reduction, October 11, 2010

This recoil pad really blew me away…no pun intended. Let me explain why.

I purchased this pad for my tactical Remington 870. After I purchased the firearm, I took to a range that was close by to put some rounds through it and get a feel for it. Unfortunately, the range in question is indoors and only allows rifled slugs in smoothbores, which besides leading up my barrel, also pretty taxing on my shoulder. I understand proper stance and the importance of squeezing the stock into your shoulder, but even after 15 rounds of 1oz slugs and a couple 3in magnum slugs, my arm was aching. I knew something had to be done. At first I was looking into the Knoxx Spec Ops recoil reduction stock, but they aren’t that cheap, and I didn’t necessarily desire a pistol stock. After looking around at Limbavers and others like it, I decided to go with the Supercell because it seemed the technology was a bit more advanced and it would appear stock (manufactured by Remington). I honestly didn’t have the highest hopes, I thought it might dampen things a bit but it would still kick pretty nasty with slugs and #00 buckshot, but for the price I went for it.

When installed it, it screwed in nice and tight, and the fit is almost perfect. The appearance and feel of this pad is MUCH different than a Limbsaver, the compound is much lighter in weight, almost a dense foam. It is firm, bit it compresses under enough pressure. It isn’t too thick an cushy like other pads out there, it’s important to have a nice feel for where the butt is in your shoulder and this pad is great in that area. Also a great feature is that the outer layer is smooth, rather than the sometimes tacky or sticky surface of other pads that can get caught on clothing in a quick aiming situation.

All of the traits upon inspecting it were nice, but the real beauty of it was when I took it to the range for a test. I fired 9 boxes of 2 3/4in slugs and two boxes of 3in magnum slugs, a total of 55 slugs in one session. No pain whatsoever, no bruising at all. The consistency of performance was also a benefit as I was able to aim for quick follow-up shots much faster than with the stock recoil pad. I was able to concentrate on my target and not have to worry about inadvertent flinching at all. After all those slugs, when I packed the gun up I could tell I had been shooting, but there was no discomfort or fatigue whatsoever.

In all, it’s more of an improvement than you will expect and looks almost stock on the gun (if anything, it improves the appearance). I highly recommend it.

    Great, but not for wood-stocked 870s., June 12, 2011

When I used this product to replace the stock butt pad on my tactical/HD, synthetic-stocked 870, it went from being painful to pleasurable, So when I got another gun for birds/clays, I bought another one of these pads, but when I removed the OEM pad on the new gun, it was immediately apparent that, while it might work, it was clearly not meant for the wood stock and would look really ugly.

Perfect fit, soft yet firm/nonsticky material!, February 10, 2012

I was skeptical at how cheap this was compared to the competition pad “saver”…I figured it wouldn’t fit (as that is the #1 complaint about this product). Those people must not have read the wood vs synthetic label on the product, because I have a regular pump 870 express synthetic and this thing went on like a glove, it was unreal. You unscrew the original hard rubber pad with a screw driver and pop these wider screws in and screw it in with a phillips. Perfect product, I can’t wait to shoot with it (all i know for now is it fits 100% and feels soft yet firm enough to handle slugs!) and most of all, it isn’t sticky like the competition’s material for 2x the cost!
